Episode 72 - Day 28 of 30 Days To More Sales - The Ad That Looked Profitable Until We Followed the Money

Oct 07, 2026

An ad can look great inside your ad account and still not be doing much for your business.

That’s what makes this one tricky.

You open Meta, Google, Amazon, TikTok, wherever you’re advertising, and the numbers look good.

The ad spent money.

It brought in sales.

The return looks strong.

So the natural reaction is:

Great. Let’s put more money behind it.

But there’s one question I want you to ask before you scale anything:

What did we actually keep?

Because your ad dashboard is showing you revenue.

It is not showing you the whole financial story.

I’ve seen businesses celebrate campaigns because the sales number looked fantastic.

Then we followed the money beyond the ad account.

Product cost.

Shipping.

Fulfillment.

Fees.

Discounts.

Returns.

Suddenly, that beautiful-looking campaign didn’t look quite so beautiful anymore.

That’s what we’re talking about in Day 28 of 30 Days to More Sales.

Because an ad can create sales without creating the kind of profit your business needs.

And you need to know the difference before you spend more.

IN THIS EPISODE, YOU’LL HEAR:

  • Why a strong ROAS doesn’t automatically mean an ad is profitable
  • The mistake product-business owners can make when they rely only on the ad dashboard
  • What happened when we followed the money beyond the sales number
  • Why product cost, shipping, fees, discounts, and returns can completely change the story
  • When a break-even first order might actually make sense
  • Why lower-priced products can be especially difficult to advertise profitably
  • How average order value, repeat purchases, and customer value affect the bigger picture
  • What I look at before deciding whether an ad deserves more money

YOUR ONE CLEAR NEXT STEP

Choose one ad or campaign from the last 30 days.

Then ask:

Do I know what this campaign actually left the business after the sale happened?

Don’t assume the answer from the ROAS.

And don’t increase the budget just because the dashboard looks good.

First, follow the money far enough to know whether those sales are helping the business the way you think they are.

Day 29: Know When Your Ad Stops Being Profitable

Tomorrow, we’re taking this one step further.

Once you know whether an ad is really profitable, you also need to know the point where it stops being profitable.

Because the dashboard may keep telling you everything looks fine even after the economics have started changing.

Knowing that line can help you make a much better decision before you keep spending.
